Who is Georgia?

In March of 2021, Rob and Sarah Chaney became pregnant with a very unexpected little girl. Although they were shocked, they were quickly very excited to welcome their third child into their family.

On November 30th, Sarah noticed that their daughter wasn’t very active in the womb.

After a call to the midwife, Rob and Sarah made their way to the hospital to be checked. It was that late evening they were given the worst possible news.

At 39 weeks gestation, their daughter no longer had a heartbeat.

“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, and faithful in prayer”

Romans 12:12

Georgia Rae Chaney was stillborn on December 2nd, 2021.

The Chaneys' hopes and dreams for their family were shattered.

How could this happen?

Not only were they now grieving their child, but simultaneously making funeral arrangements, making decisions about medical testing, focusing on Sarah's healing and also caring for their 2 living children.

Many times, they felt as though they were drowning in their grief.

Without the unwavering support of those around them and their steadfast faith in the Lord, they believe they would have.

Most people are familiar with the 5 stages of grief developed by Elizabeth Kübler-Ross: Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression and Acceptance.

However, Grief expert, David Kessler wrote a book including a 6th Stage of Grief: Finding Meaning.

Dreams of Georgia was created out of Sarah's desire to find meaning in her pain. She started writing as a way to express her grief and document her journey.

In sharing her story, she found so many other women who have experienced similar loss, but felt the push to do more. To create something that would serve others while also building community.

And thus Dreams of Georgia was born.
